silence
I visited an old friend this weekÂÂ
It’s been a whileÂÂ
The conversation started out with the usual …ÂÂ
How’s it been?ÂÂ
What have you been up to?ÂÂ
What’s new?ÂÂ
What’s taken you so long?ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Life’s been busyÂÂ
The list never grows shorterÂÂ
I had to run just to get thereÂÂ
After a good time of chat and coffee the conversation slowed to a gentle walk and then came to a stopÂÂ
We just sat together in a space that became sacred.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
The sun bathed us in beautyÂÂ
The clouds played pictionary in the skyÂÂ
The sea glistened, disturbed only by the occasional wakeÂÂ
The trees stood still, at attention, waiting for their next command to come on the breath of the windÂÂ
We dared not speak a wordÂÂ
For to speak into this stillness would be profane.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Things, that just an hour ago were important, have also lost their voiceÂÂ
Anxious thoughts were sent to the back of the queueÂÂ
Time suspended its judgementÂÂ
A feeling of forever.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Breaking the stillness, a cell phone.ÂÂ
A call announcing my next appointmentÂÂ
I’ve got to goÂÂ
I’ll be back soonÂÂ
I promise.ÂÂ
